Comparison is there. You see in on your newsfeeds, you see it with your friends, family, you name it and you’ve probably already compared yourself to it, even if it was unconsciously.
Comparison doesn’t serve us, but in a world full of competition, you really can’t help but compare yourself to others in the hopes of advancing or imitating their success to achieve your own, and that’s where comparison breaks us.
You see, comparison is a tricky thing. It gives you all the answers to your most desired hopes and dreams but it quietly takes away your voice, and your personality and once it leaves, you are left speechless, confused and still at the bottom. What comparison doesn’t let you realize is that the people you compare yourself to, don’t compare themselves to others. Here is what you need to keep in mind
- Don’t set yourself up for failure
You do it to yourself. You choose to follow those accounts on instagram, you choose to read those successful blogs, so if you chose it, you stop it. Although those accounts can serve as great inspiration for you one day, right now, its just taking your voice away. So if you’re just starting out, unfollow them. Stop reading the blogs. Allow yourself to find what works for you and what doesn’t through your own experience. Then, when you have figured your own voice out, you can start listening to the voice of others.
2. Its Not a Competition
Whatever it is you are trying to achieve, it’s not a competition, and once you get competition out of your mind, it all becomes easier, I swear. If you love your business, just do it. If you love writing, just do it. Do it because you love it, not because you want to be the best, or the most successful. This limits you so much because you try to find ways that work, ways that have failed, and you begin to compare. What might have worked for someone, might not work for you and that is where the beauty of your voice comes in.
3. You’re Already A Better You
If you think back to the start of your career, or your business, or you blog, or your weight loss journey, whatever it might be, how far ahead have you already gotten? Did you go from assistant to actually doing what you love? Have you gotten your first 100 dollars from your business? Have you lost the first 5 pounds? The only person you need to compare yourself with is the person you were yesterday. That is the only person you are trying to be better than. Cheer yourself on!
4. A Grateful Heart
No matter where you are right now, no matter how far ahead you are, don’t forget to look around you and be thankful for what you already have.
